I'm not sure if i'm posting this in the right area but here goes. If you're a fanfction reader then i'm sure you've come across random Japanese words in a fanfiction story, for example "baka" or "kawaii" I personally hate this, it's not that the terms are hard to understand its just the fact that they're random and out of place a lot of the time, it's as if they want to impress you. What do you guys think about this? |

I think it's fine if it's necessary. As long as the writer ensures it's clear to his/her readers. |

Yeah, Josei is Japanese but it roughly translate to lady(ies) or women, and said planet I named Josei is 98% all women.

If the character is clearly defined as Japanese I guess it's okay, but it's still annoying honestly. |

I hate it. There is no reason to use Japanese words, unless there is no real English ''counterpart'' to them. Edited by Gohan Boo, Sep 11 2014, 12:22 AM.

Most of those fanfictions overuse the exclamation point too, eugh. I don't like it really. If the character is Japanese, then fine, it's okay sometimes. But from what I've come across, the person speaking it will be a neko with rainbow hair,be super kawaii, as well as beautiful and... not Japanese. It's just thrown in there because.. I don't know. It bothers me a lot. |

Inserting Japanese words in a text that's being written in English should be avoided unless it's necessary IMO. Adapting some terms to name characters and locations is fine, but it feels very awkaward when a character randomly uses words like "Baka" in the middle of a sentence. It's being written in English, not Japanese.

Not roughly, that is what it means. I think its fine if used sparingly. Though I'd wager to say that a lot of people would end up "spelling" the word wrong. |

This is perfectly fine and actually, in my opinion, really clever/neat. However, when the words are randomly thrown in during unrelated points of the story it tends to be distracting and brings down the value of the work overall. |

Also I'd like to add, maybe this is just me, but considering how many words in English translate to "Baka" in Japanese, it can sound grammatically incorrect in sentences, and break the sentences. Example: "What a baka show' Technically it makes sense, because it's saying "What a stupid show", but it could also mean "What a moron/idiot show" which doesn''t make any sense. Now I'm not the master of Japanese so maybe there's something I'm missing, like baka not meaning idiot/moron, and only meaning stupid/dumb, though through my subbed anime experience I'm pretty sure I've got the definition right. Not completely sure though. |

One wouldn't say "What a baka show," so you're right there. You would probably use a word like oroka instead, something like oroka de aru. Stuff like that doesn't even translate well to Japanese, "What a _____ show" is an English expression to begin with. |

It's really annoying to me. I don't mind as much when suffixes are added at the end of names in dialogue, like -kun or -chan, but anything else really bothers me.

I hate it, unless you're using it for nouns or something I generally ignore fanfics that do it. Nothing against the language itself (I studied it for a few years actually), I just think it comes off as extremely lame when you split your writing like that. It's not even Japanese, it's completely romanized. |

I don't like seeing it with any language, honestly. I can tolerate it with German but I'm very biased toward that language, it can be funny with Spanish in the right setting, and certain words in French are fine (greetings/salutations), but that's about it. |
